Privacy policy
Applies to the LearnLoop browser extension, version 1.2. Last updated 9 October 2026.
The short version
LearnLoop keeps everything on your own computer, in the browser's storage. It does not collect, sell or share any data. It has no account, no adverts, no analytics and no server. It sends nothing over the internet.
What LearnLoop stores on your computer
- Each child's display name, an optional birthday or school year, the subjects and levels, and the rules you set.
- Topics you choose to focus on or skip, and spelling words you type in.
- Measured video seconds per day, and why time was or was not counted (for example, the video was paused).
- Learning results per skill and per session: answers given by themselves, with help, or not yet, and each child's own best in practice rounds.
- Parent overrides, and a salted hash of the parent PIN and recovery code. The PIN itself is never stored.
- An optional parent email address for the weekly report. It is used only to open your own email app with the report filled in. LearnLoop never sends email itself.
- The address and position of the video a child was watching when learning started, so they can return to it. Only the latest one is kept.
What LearnLoop never collects
Video titles, channel names, browsing history, search terms, screenshots, keystrokes outside LearnLoop, voice recordings, location, contacts or any identifier for advertising.
Permissions and why they are needed
- Access to youtube.com: to see whether a video is playing, show the countdown, pause the video and keep its place.
- Storage: to keep settings and results on your computer.
- Alarms and idle: to keep time accurately and stop counting when the computer is locked.
- Text to speech: to read questions aloud with the voices already on your computer.
- Declarative net request: to send YouTube to the learning screen during a learning session.
- Scripting: to start measuring in YouTube tabs that were already open when LearnLoop was installed or updated.
- Notifications: to tell you when the weekly report is ready.
Keeping and deleting data
LearnLoop keeps the last 500 learning sessions and 120 days of daily totals, and removes older records by itself. In the parent settings, Data and PIN lets you delete one child's data or everything. Removing the extension deletes all of its data. You can export a CSV file at any time.
Children
LearnLoop is set up and controlled by a parent or carer, for their own children. Children's data stays on the family's computer. If we ever add a hosted service, such as automatic email, it will get its own privacy review before it is released, and this policy will be updated first.
